WHAT IS CARDISTRY?

Cardistry is the name given to the performance art of card flourishing. The term is a portmanteau of "card" and "artistry". Unlike card magic, cardistry is meant to be visually impressive and appear very hard to execute. People who engage in cardistry are nicknamed "cardists".

Cardists display their dexterity and discipline by performing extremely technical and borderline magical manouvers. Onlookers are often impressed and left with a sense of awe. Sparking the emotions of audience members is where most of the motivation comes from for some cardists.

COMMUNITY

The cardistry community consists of members of all skill levels teaching and sharing what they've learned with each other in the form of tutorials, videos, images, and stories. Anyone can pick up a deck of cards and learn, but there are also members that have been doing it for years, some have even written books. Media created around cardistry has a unique style both visual and through the use of movement. There's not much else like it.

In 2014 Dan and Dave started a convention and interactive conference called Cardistry-Con. It's schedule includes interviews, panel discussions, live performances, exclusie video screenings, workshops, contests and giveways.

TUTORIALS

The idea is that anyone who has access to a deck of cards has the opportunity to learn some flourishes or sleight of hand. There exists a plethora of online resources to aid the learning of manouvers however simple or complex. The most intuitive way for most people to learn cardistry is through the use of video tutorials. Most of which are available for free online on a video platform like YouTube. One must be careful, however, because some sources are better than others. As easy as it is to pick up a deck of cards, is as easy as it is to upload a video to YouTube.
